Ten domains, weighted by our question bank

Our bank of 1,707 questions is spread across the same 10 areas the VTNE covers. Two domains carry almost a third of it between them — so that is where a shaky candidate gets the fastest return.

Most missed VTNE items aren't knowledge gaps — they're two plausible answers and a stem you read too fast.

How to work a VTNE question

  1. Read the four answers first

Skimming the options before the stem tells you what the question is really testing, so you read the stem once — with a purpose — instead of twice.

  2. Mark the near-duplicates

VTNE items love two choices that differ by a single word, dose fraction, or decimal place. Spot that pair; the answer is almost always inside it.

  3. Rule out to two

Knock out anything clearly wrong, especially on a negative stem (“EXCEPT”, “least appropriate”). Two survivors is a 50/50 you can reason through.

  4. Find the one differentiator

Between the last two, name the single fact that makes one wrong — the extra modifier, the contraindication, the missing step — and commit.

Common questions

VTNE basics

What is the VTNE?

The Veterinary Technician National Examination is the credentialing exam administered by the AAVSB that most U.S. states require to become a registered, certified, or licensed veterinary technician (RVT / CVT / LVT). It is a multiple-choice exam spanning ten skill domains.

Is this practice test really free?

Yes. Every question, rationale, and study guide on this site is free and needs no account. If you prefer to study on your phone, the app carries the same bank.

How many practice questions are there?

Our practice bank holds 1,707 questions across all ten domains, each written with a full rationale. This is our own study material — we don't claim it mirrors the live exam item-for-item.

Where should I start?

Sit a full practice test cold to see which domains leak points, then work the study guide, starting with Animal Care & Nursing and Anesthesia — the two heaviest areas.
